Comment bien entretenir ses bougies pour qu'elles durent plus longtemps ?

How to properly care for your candles so they last longer?

Candles are much more than just decorative objects: they bring a warm and fragrant atmosphere to your home. But did you know that proper care can extend their lifespan and optimize their burning? Discover all my tips to get the most out of your candles!

Trim the wick before each use:

A wick that is too long can cause a flame that is too large, uneven combustion, and black smoke.

👉 The golden rule: always trim the wick to about 5mm before lighting your candle.

👉 Use a hair clipper or a pair of scissors to cut off the excess.

👉 This allows for clean and even combustion, without excess soot.

Allow the wax to melt to the rim of the container:

If you extinguish your candle too soon, it may tunnel and not melt evenly.

👉 Always leave your candle burning until the entire surface is liquid. (This can take between 1 and 3 hours depending on the size of the candle)

👉 Avoid letting your candle burn for more than 4 hours to preserve the quality of the wax.

Avoid drafts:

Drafts disrupt the flame and lead to uneven burning, thus reducing the lifespan of your candle.

👉 Do not place your candle near an open window, a fan or an air conditioner.

👉 Choose a stable location, sheltered from air movements.

Use a snuffer rather than blowing out the flame:

Blowing on a candle creates smoke and can move the wick, causing uneven burning the next time it is used.

👉 Use a candle snuffer

👉 This also helps prevent the formation of black smoke.

Clean the surface and edges of the container regularly:

Over time, soot residue can accumulate on the glass surfaces.

👉 To clean your candle:

-       Use a dry or slightly damp cloth to wipe the edges

Store your candles in a suitable place:

Candles are sensitive to heat and humidity, which can alter their quality.

👉 Store them in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight.

👉 This prevents the wax from softening and the fragrance from changing.

The final word:

By following these tips, you will optimize the lifespan of your candles while enjoying clean and even combustion.
